Campo Viejo Rioja Reserva Tempranillo 2021 750mL
Ruby red color with gold trim. Bright and deep. Complex aromas. Great balance between fruit (cherries, black plums, ripe blackberries) and clear tones from wood (clove, pepper, vanilla and coconut). The sense of smell is even more intensified with the aromas that develop during aging in bottle. Smooth and balanced on the palate with a long and flavorful finish.
Critical Acclaim
The blackberry aromas with hints of toasted oak and nuts are most attractive. Full-bodied, round and silky with a lovely finish. Lots of wood, but holds it together. Drink now.
This red is lean, firm and focused, with cherry, tea, leafy, licorice and spice flavors mingling over firm tannins and juicy acidity. Savory, in the traditional style. Not big but balanced.
Evidence of ongoing improvements at this large bodega under winemaker Elena Adell, this is a voluminous and commendable blend, especially in a year like 2013. Tempranillo-based with 15 Graciano and Mazuelo, it’s sappy, floral and elegant with subtle reduction and a core of sweet raspberry fruit. Not bad for 1.5m bottles. 2018-21
